Unpaid Wages, Commissions, and Bonuses
In addition to a base salary, many professionals receive significant bonuses from contractual agreements with their employer or ownership interest in a partnership. Many financial professionals including traders, financial advisers, investment bankers, hedge fund managers, financial analysts, and portfolio managers are compensated in this manner. In many cases these professionals rely on bonuses for a significant portion of their overall compensation.
Bonus disputes may arise over the calculation of bonuses during employment. In these cases the firm fails to pay an earned bonus. Sometimes the failure to pay the bonus stems from a termination of the employee. In other cases, the reason for withholding the bonus stems from an unrelated dispute or employer grievance in which the employer penalizes the employee through the withholding of the promised bonus. However, earned bonuses that are unpaid are generally still owed to the industry professional.
